EPCglobal Architecture Framework

The Architecture Review Committee (ARC) was formed to enable EPCglobal to consolidate architecture discussions to a single committee staffed by business and technology experts with broad expertise in understanding the business and technology implications of architectural decisions.

The EPCglobal Architecture Framework is a collection of interrelated standards for hardware, software, and data interfaces, together with core services that are operated by EPCglobal and its delegates.  The Architecture Framework:

  • enumerates each of the hardware, software, and data standards and shows how they are related
  • defines the top level architecture of core services that are operated by EPCglobal and its delegates
  • explains the underlying principles that have guided the design of individual standards and core service components within the EPCglobal Architecture Framework
  • provides architectural guidance to end users and technology vendors seeking to implement EPCglobal standards
